INTRODUCTION

This Privacy Policy explains what information the English-French Dictionary app (“the app”) handles and how. The app does not require an account, and we do not run any servers that collect your data.

INFORMATION WE DO NOT COLLECT

We do not collect, store, sell, or share your name, email address, phone number, location, contacts, photos, device identifiers, or any other personal information. The app contains no advertising, no analytics, and no tracking tools.

INFORMATION STORED ON YOUR DEVICE

The app saves the following only on your own device. We cannot see it.

Bookmarked words.
Words you looked up online, saved so they work offline next time.
Practice progress: your day streak, how many sentences you practiced today, the sentences you marked “Still learning”, and where you stopped in each practice set.
Reminder settings: whether the daily reminder is on and the time you chose.

You can delete this data at any time by clearing the app’s storage in your phone’s Settings or by uninstalling the app.

ONLINE WORD LOOKUP (THIRD-PARTY SERVICE)

Most of the app works offline. If you tap “Search online” for a word that is not in the built-in dictionary, the app sends that word to the MyMemory translation service (api.mymemory.translated.net), operated by Translated, to get a French translation. As with any internet request, that service can see your IP address and the word you looked up. We do not control how MyMemory handles this information. Please see the MyMemory / Translated privacy policy on their website. Only the word you chose to look up is sent. Nothing else from the app is sent, and nothing is sent unless you tap the button.

NOTIFICATIONS

The app can show a daily notification with five words to learn. It is created on your device by the Android system’s scheduler. No server or push service is involved, and no information is sent anywhere to produce it. On Android 13 and newer, the app asks for permission to show notifications. You can turn the reminder off in the app, or turn notifications off in your phone’s settings, at any time.

PERMISSIONS
Internet: used only for the optional online word lookup described above.
Notifications: used only to show the daily words reminder.
DEVICE BACKUPS

Android may include the app’s saved data (such as bookmarks and progress) in your device’s automatic backup to your own Google account, depending on your phone’s settings. This is handled by Android and Google under your account, not by us.

CONTENT SOURCES

The built-in dictionary and practice sentences come from open sources, including Tatoeba (CC BY 2.0 FR), FreeDict, and Wiktionary. This content is bundled inside the app and does not involve collecting data from you. Credits are in the app and in its licence notices.

CHILDREN’S PRIVACY

The app does not knowingly collect personal information from anyone, including children under 13.

DATA SECURITY

Because we do not collect your data, there is no developer-side database to secure. Data saved on your device is protected by Android’s normal app storage protections.

CHANGES TO THIS POLICY

If we change this policy, for example by adding a feature that handles data differently, we will update the effective date above and publish the new version where the app is distributed.
